Are you a professor or researcher in an Asian or Wallonia-Brussels Federation institution?

Would you like an exchange of three weeks to two months with a colleague from a partner institution in Asia or the Wallonia-Brussels Federation?

The ASEM-DUO mobility grant offers professors and researchers the possibility of a pair exchange between Asia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

In the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), a specific cooperation process has been launched between the two regions in the field of education, more specifically higher education. At the Asia-Europe Education Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur in 2013, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (WBF) announced its intention to join the ASEM-DUO Fellowship Programme as of 2014.

The ASEM-DUO Fellowship Programme was therefore created to promote the "pair mobility" of professors and researchers from WBF higher education institutions and Asian countries. The exchange must take place over a period of three weeks to two months and in "pairs", i.e. a professor/researcher from a WBF institution goes to an Asian partner institution, and vice versa. However, candidates do not necessarily need to work in the same field of study.

Generally speaking, the objectives of the fellowship programme are as follows:

  • to promote an increase in balanced exchanges of higher education professors between the two regions;
  • to contribute to the establishment of regular exchange programmes between higher education institutions in the two regions;
  • to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the two regions.

The full list of Asian countries involved is: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Financial support and submission of applications
For the 2021-2022 academic year, ASEM-DUO Belgium/Walloon-Brussels scholarships are awarded for "pair mobility" projects starting no earlier than 1 August 2021 and ending no later than 31 August 2022.

The length of stay must be a minimum of three weeks and a maximum of two months.
