Cattet and Forzani honoured at the Festival du nouveau cinéma 26/09/2017

In early September, the Festival du nouveau cinema (FNC) announced three retrospectives and special programmes putting exceptional film-makers in the spotlight. One of them is dedicated to Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani.

The key mission of the 46th edition of the Festival du nouveau cinema (FNC) is to showcase cinema in all its forms. Therefore, this year the event is honouring rising stars of international cinema Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani, in its quest to continuously support original and daring works, thus allowing the audience to explore new trends and horizons in the world of cinema.

This film-maker couple are presenting their latest work at FNC, Laissez bronzer les cadavres, which was recently showcased at the Locarno Festival and is currently being screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani met in 2009, while working on their first feature film Amer. They then went on to conquer the international film scene with unique, sensorial and transgressive films inspired by Italian gialli and polar films. They are not afraid to reinterpret genres and shake up the norms. The two filmmakers first attended the Festival eight years ago, when they presented Amer, which was awarded the ‘Prix du Public Temps 0’.

To honour their presence, FNC has come up with a varied programme, including the very first full retrospective of their works – both short films and feature films – as well as a masterclass and a ‘carte blanche’, where they will present two films that inspired their latest film, namely two of the greatest Italian western classics, Face to Face by Sergio Sollima (1967) and Keoma by Enzo G. Castellari (1976).

The 46th edition of the Festival du nouveau cinema will be held in Montréal from 4 to 15 October.
