ABC is one of the world's largest freight companies. The company's bosses selected Liège airport to relieve congestion at Amsterdam Airport, which has reached its capacity of 500,000 flights annually. AirBridgeCargo is the scheduled cargo company belonging to the Volga-Dnepr Group, which also owns Volga-Dnepr Airlines and Atran Airlines which already regularly use Liège Airport.  The company will fly 12 flights a week over the winter.

Through its network of destinations, AirBridgeCargo connects its customers across the largest trans-regional networks in Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa and North America, covering over 30 cargo gateways and accommodating global trade flows. All flights are operated through the ABC cargo hub at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.

The company already works with Liège airport, which simplified the decision to choose Liège Airport to relieve Schiphol, over other locations in Europe.

"We have a long history of cooperation with Liege airport through Atran Airlines (part of the Volga-Dnepr Group) and now are targeted to bring our partnership to a new level. By significantly improving imports and working closely with our trucking partners, we are optimistic about ABC's future in Liège and the benefits it will bring to our customers", explained Sergey Lazarev, General Director of AirBridgeCargo Airlines.

The Boeing 747s used by the company can carry up to 120 tonnes of goods per flight. On site, the company Lachs (Liège Air Cargo Handling Service) will manage the goods.  The rise of this new operator is likely to accelerate the airport's infrastructure developments.
