Comics - the Charleroi version!

A new year, a new decision to return to her first love and particularly to diversify her reading!

As I've previously mentioned, there was a time when I was hooked on reading comics! So young, barely 10 years old and yet so passionate! When I think about it, I can see why my cousins thought I was a geek, but it's so good to read! I would count the days until the next visit to my grandparents, hoping that the new comic books had arrived... In fact, through her job, my grandmother regularly received the new Dupuis comics and I would devour them in no time at all! So, I admit that my Dupuis knowledge is quite extensive (OMG)... I'm also proud that it comes from my region and is known all over the world! We have a wealth of riches and we really must talk and tell people about them! This is our heritage and we must bring it to life!

The following are some of my favourite comics (beware, it's a long list): Boule et Bill, Cédric, Le Petit Spirou, Jojo, Mélusine, Kid Paddle, Natacha, Agent 212, Sac à Puces, Gaston, Psy, Papyrus, Yoko Tsuno, AriaBilly the Cat, Toupet, The Smurfs, ... and a slightly less childish series that my mother would kill me if she knew about... Well mother, you certainly didn't know but I also read Servais (Aire Libre) and yes... (those who know will understand... if not go and see...). I also know about a lot of comics that I didn't read because they were too "boyish" and not for me like Michel Vaillant for example!

So, to begin this new year, for my first read I picked an enriching magazine which was still comic! A wonderful retrospective of our "hideous" 2016 in an original format...

GROOM

Wassat???? Simply and effectively, for adults, but also for younger readers (from the age of 10 I would say), it's all the year's news in a comic!

If you haven't followed or understood the major stories of 2016, Groom will informatively explain them using humorous images.

Across 8 sections, you can explore the key moments of 2016 such as the terrorist attacks or the U.S. election but there are also nods to other special little moments that I'll leave to surprise you!

I personally selected some stories to read with my 8-year old son who enjoyed them, such as those with Pokémon and I kept others for myself, showing the funniest ones to my husband (who never reads). I really liked the view given of our society and consequently found that I was interested by stories that hadn't previously aroused my interest previously! I think it's also a good working base for introducing the news to children in secondary schools. If I was a teacher, I'd use it!

With this rediscovery of another form of reading, I returned to it again and again and decided to introduce my son to reading with all the new comics that I didn't know and which are available to us today (novels don't work yet)!

Thanks Dupuis

And a special thanks to Coraline!

Passionately
