Wallonia exports across the entire world

The dynamisms of external business in Wallonia is reflected in average growth of 6.3% in exports in the period from 1996 to 2012, placing Wallonia in the top position in Belgium and in a good position compared with its main European competitors. Over the past 15 years, Wallonia has been overtaken only by Germany (+7.0%) and the Netherlands (+7.0%), but has come in ahead of Flanders (+6.1%), the EU15 (+5.9%) and France (+4.6%).

As a result, Walloon businesses have been increasing their market share compared with their European competitors for 15 years. The proportion EU15 exports accounted for Wallonia increased from 0.94% in 1996 to 1.00% in 2012, representing a 6.2% increase in market share.

Wallonia is the only region in Belgium to have had a trade surplus for five years, this surplus being of the order of €6.3 billion in 2012 (full year).

Wallonia's trade surplus represents 12% of its GDP. Within the countries of the EU, this performance is surpassed only by Ireland.
