Les Belges Histoires | Farm Prod: 20 years of urban art

In the late 1990s, a group of graphic design students met at the École Supérieure des Arts de Saint-Luc, in Tournai.

It was in a shared house that resembled a farm building, known as "La Ferme" or "The Farm" by its occupants, that the beginnings of an unfailing friendship blossomed.

A true family of artists was born at La Ferme, whose walls served as canvases for their creations and murals, emerging from the students' imagination.

The story continued in Brussels in the early 2000s, where the Saint-Luc alumni would come back together in the city's radical, festive and socio-cultural atmosphere. The family grew and the collective adventure continued within the walls of the squat in the Hotel Tagawa. The small group, now known as Farm Prod, occupied the fifth floor of the building and made its debut on Brussels' underground scene. This was when they hosted their first public exhibitions, in a gallery overlooking Avenue Louise ‒ entirely managed by the group themselves.

It was also around this time that Farm Prod invented the live paintings that were to become their future trademark, and started flooding the public space with their masterful murals, painted live and showcasing the work of several hands.

Then came their first paid orders, which the collective were able to fulfil thanks to the diversity of their talents and the fusion of all the unique characteristics that made up the group. A uniqueness that granted them a variety of styles and themes, enabling them to captivate a wide audience.

This is how, for more than 20 years, Farm Prod's performances, exhibitions and murals have been enhancing urban spaces, both in Belgium and abroad.
