The Belgium-based green energy company Elsa has, in partnership with Edinburgh tidal developer Nova Innovation, commissioned the first 100kW turbine as part of the 500kW green power project off the Shetland Islands, Scotland.
The project features five 100kW devices generating clean electricity sufficient to power the equivalent of 300 homes.
Following installation and testing, the first M100 turbine is now exporting power to the Shetland grid.
The project is backed by the Scottish Government's enterprise agency, Scottish Enterprise and the Renewable Energy Investment Fund (REIF).
