Walloon Lyrical Photography… A Whole Musical Score!
Wallonia is home to many talented artists. I am continuing my series on Walloon artists by introducing Marie-Hélène Sigart, a lyrical photographer.
There are artists who seek to explain the world. And then there are those who live it.
She photographs as others breathe: instinctively, silently, with her own sensitivity. Her work springs from a gaze—her own—that of a woman whose life has taken her on a rich and varied journey.
In the privacy of her studio, she experiments with materials, fluids, inks and natural products such as milk and cream, as well as the unpredictable interactions of colour and light. Then, amidst these fleeting movements, she captures a moment that exists only at the instant she presses the shutter.
Each image is an apparition.
Neither painting nor mere photography, her works occupy that rare space where matter becomes emotion.
Inner landscapes seem to emerge: organic forms, presences—sometimes almost cosmic, sometimes infinitely delicate.
The artist imposes no title, no interpretation.
She leaves the viewer free to feel, to imagine, to dream.
This absence of explanation or message is perhaps what makes her work so profoundly contemporary: each piece becomes an intimate encounter between the image and the person contemplating it.
Through this sincere and instinctive approach, the artist reminds us that beauty does not always need to be understood in order to be deeply felt.
To experience these works alone, in a space of intimate resonance, simply make an appointment with NovaLys Art Gallery.
I wish you a wonderful discovery and a lovely moment in the company of this Walloon artist.
