Since 1925, Comptoir des Epices has mastered every stage of the production process for spices sourced from all over the world. Since 2002, Anne and Jean-Vincent Veriter have been carrying on this unique expertise.
Comptoir des Epices is, above all, a story of passion — and of passionate people. It’s the story of Anne and Jean-Vincent Veriter.
“Lovers of both cooking and travel, we had the chance, in 2002, to visit the workshops of Comptoir des Epices. That visit changed our lives. The small company was looking for a new owner, and it was love at first sight. For a food engineer and a teacher, it was the perfect opportunity for a new professional and family adventure,” says Anne Veriter.
Although Anne and Jean-Vincent took over Comptoir des Epices in 2002, the company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. For a century, Comptoir des Epices has been offering spices bursting with a thousand and one flavors from every corner of the globe.
The secret to this success? Full control over every step of the production process.
“Our first step begins with importing spices at the rhythm of the harvest seasons from four continents. Next, we grind the spices in our workshop in the Verviers region. This involves crushing the spices to bring out their aromas. Finally, we create unique spice blends. We have more than 300 products to delight cooks and gourmet enthusiasts,” explains Anne Veriter.
Among the products sold by Comptoir des Epices are various curry blends.
“That’s our specialty — different curry mixes. This year, we have a new product: a pepper and truffle blend. It’s a combination of several types of pepper. When mixed with truffle, you first get the peppery kick, and then, thanks to the umami effect, the distinctive taste of truffle emerges,” Anne Veriter adds.
Recently present at the Gourmet Selection fine foods trade show in Paris, Anne and Jean-Vincent Veriter sell their products in Belgium and export their spice blends to France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and even a little to Japan.
